847 Running Company Summer Running Camps

We are excited to announce that for the summer of 2021 we will be holding three different sessions of youth summer running camps serving kids entering preschool through high school. The age break down will be as follows:

Preschool - 1st Grade: At this age, all kids want to do is run around! They aren't thinking about it as a sport or a way to stay healthy. It's all fun and games and that's what we strive to keep it as during these sessions. All running will be incorporated into games and relay race type activities. We will go through a short warm up and stretch at the end.

2nd - 4th Grade: We will start building off of the games done in the youngest group. Games will start to become more structured and some workout terminology will be used (ex. 400m for one loop around the park). We will try to look for some progress across the two weeks to celebrate like ran a full loop without walking! Looking to celebrate little victories to maintain interest in the sport.

5th - 8th Grade: This age group will be separated into two tiers: recreational and experienced. Recreational sessions will focus more on slowly building up distance and teaching about the importance of strength, stretch, and recovery. We don't want to over do it with those new to the sport. Experienced sessions are intended for those with experience running competitively through school or club or if they are competitive in another sport they should consider joining the experienced group. The experienced middle school group will be run similar to the high school group.

Each session is two weeks long and we will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You can sign up for one, two, or all three sessions! Times for each age group are listed below.

A confirmation e-mail will be sent after sign up to get more information on the participant(s) to be able to properly plan out each session.

How It Works

We host 16 practices between June 12 and August 3, one every Monday and Thursday . Mondays are speed workouts and Thursdays are endurance runs. Campers and their families decide which days to attend based on their schedules and training needs. Blue Pass-holders can attend any 8 practices during the entire 8-week program. Gold-pass holders can attend all 16 practices during the same term.

Practice sessions will include warm-up drills, age- and ability-appropriate running workouts, and cool downs. Campers will also participate in timed runs to gauge improvement and apply learned skills.

Campers must bring their pass to attend practice. Passes will be collected by an 847RC Staffer before practice, so attendance can be recorded. Passes will be returned to campers after each practice.

Program info including practice locations, workout details, and liability release forms will be emailed out to all registrants on June 1.

Cancellations

There will be no cancelled practices. If unsafe weather conditions are likely to occur during a scheduled practice, campers will meet at 847RC for an indoor HIIT workout including treadmill reps, bodyweight strength/mobility exercises, and stretching. Indoor practices will be announced via email at least 90 minutes in advance of the scheduled meeting time.

Important Notes

  • We are looking for parent volunteers! Please email Nicole at social.847runningcompany@gmail.com for consideration.
  • Only registered campers and their parents can participate at camp practices. Please register participating siblings separately.
  • Please have any medicines and/or medical devices available and prepared for self- or parent-administration. 847RC Staffers and volunteers cannot administer medicine to campers.
